Mission & Vision

Mission

North Channel Community Rowing (NCCR) expands access to the sport of rowing by engaging underrepresented youth in Evanston, IL. Through high-quality coaching, mentorship, and competitive opportunities, NCCR fosters discipline, teamwork, and confidence—helping young athletes reach their fullest potential on and off the water.

Vision

Rowing in the United States is a diverse and inclusive sport where every young person—regardless of background—can discover the joy of rowing, develop lifelong skills, and pursue athletic excellence

Guiding Principles

ACCESS: Strive for inclusivity and availability for all, regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or ability to pay.

EMPOWERMENT: Build self-esteem and a broad depth of strength through leadership, teamwork and accountability.

WELLNESS: Introduce a fun and rewarding sport that teaches hard work and discipline while improving health and building fitness in a unique team environment.

More Than Just Rowing.

We are here to row and reinforce the lifelong skills that come with fully engaging in this sport, but there is so much more we offer along the way. We want every NCCR “graduate” to get all the support they need – academically, emotionally, and physically – to feel more empowered as they move on to high school, college, and out into the world.

Whether that’s homework help, tutoring, swim lessons, counseling, or simply a cultural field trip that expands someone’s horizon, we’re on it.  If you have a recommendation for an enrichment service you’d like us to offer or that you can provide, we’re all ears. Send questions and suggestions to sandy.culver@nccrowing.org

NCCR is a SafeSport Community

NCCR is committed to creating and supporting an environment free from misconduct. The physical and emotional well-being of all participants is fundamental to our mission, and misconduct of any type will not be tolerated.

As a member organization of USRowing, NCCR is aligned with the policies and best practices of our national governing body, which includes compliance with SafeSport.  In response to reports of sexual misconduct within the US Olympic and Paralympic Movement, the US Congress passed legislation in 2017 to establish the US Center for SafeSport, which promulgates safeguarding policies and training programs for all sports included in the Olympics and Paralympics.
