We’re Hiring!

Position: Head Coach / possible Staff Position

Location: Evanston, IL
Employment: Part-Time+
Starting: Summer/Fall 2026

If you love coaching middle school kids and have an interest in helping run a nonprofit, we have a great job for you!

North Channel Community Rowing (NCCR) expands access to the sport of rowing by engaging underrepresented youth in Evanston, IL. Through high-quality coaching, mentorship, and competitive opportunities, NCCR fosters discipline, teamwork, and confidence—helping young athletes reach their fullest potential on and off the water.

NCCR is a stand-alone middle school sculling program serving underrepresented 7th and 8th graders. We develop athletes with the goal that they continue rowing at the local high school.

Job Overview:

We’re looking for a coach to head up our 3x per week middle school program, ideally someone who is also interested in taking on a larger leadership role with our nonprofit.

Good coaches are hard to find and we’re willing to be flexible/creative in working with the right candidate, regardless of whether they want to take on a larger role.

We are well supported with an excellent board, seasonal coaches and high school/college counselors, a strong donor base, and community partners.

The coach will oversee all aspects of daily practices, athlete development, training plans, and regatta preparation. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with enthusiasm for mentoring young athletes, creating an inclusive team environment, and coaching in a way that builds confidence, self-esteem and resilience.

Limited by size and space, we keep our roster at around 20 kids year-round, adding new kids in the fall from our learn-to-row summer camps. We have four 4x’s and two 2x’s.

For the coach who also has some experience or interest in NFP leadership, the main areas of focus would include:

• Strengthening and expanding community referral channels to recruit underrepresented kids from the local middle schools

• Bridging the gap between our middle school and local high school rowing club

• Fundraising

Preferred but not mandatory:

• Sculling experience.

• USRowing Level 2 or higher

• Fall and Spring practices are typically 2-3 days per week on the water, 6:30-8 PM, and one land training day. Winter training is currently 3x per week with two weekdays and one Saturday.

• Travel to local and regional regattas 2-3 times per season.
